Proposal videography

A proposal video in Mexico is a marriage proposal filmed from a hidden position and edited into a 2- to 3-minute film, priced from $450 for 90 minutes on location and delivered within 2 weeks. The film keeps what a photograph cannot: the walk to the spot, the moment one partner kneels, the words if they can be heard, and the seconds after the answer, when most of the emotion actually happens. The last part of the 90 minutes is a short session of the two of you together, filmed openly once the secret is out.

A proposal on film, and how it differs from photos

Proposal photography is a different booking with a different result: edited still photographs rather than a film. Some people book both, which means two people hiding at the same spot, and their positions are planned together so neither appears in the other’s frame. If you want only one, the question is simple — do you want to see and hear the moment again, or to print it and hang it on a wall? A proposal video answers the first; the photography page answers the second.

Hiding is the craft. The videographer arrives early at an agreed spot with a clear line of sight, usually posing as a tourist with a camera, and the person proposing sends a live location or a message as they approach. A fixed mark to stop on keeps the framing right. Sound is the hard part, because the camera is far away and wind and waves on a beach in Cancún or Puerto Vallarta can bury the words; a small microphone hidden in the clothing of the person proposing solves that, if it is agreed beforehand.

Light decides the time. On the Caribbean coast, in Cancún, Tulum or Isla Mujeres, the sun sets behind the land and the sea goes soft and blue in the last hour; on the Pacific, in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán or Todos Santos, it goes down over the water and can be in the frame. The film is cut to licensed music, raw clips are not included unless agreed in writing before booking, and if lightning or a hurricane or tropical storm warning makes the location unusable, the proposal moves to a new date at no charge.

Questions about proposal videography

What is the difference between a proposal video and proposal photography?

A proposal video records the moment in motion and sound — the walk to the spot, the kneel, the answer and the reaction — and delivers a 2- to 3-minute edited film within 2 weeks. Proposal photography is a separate booking that delivers edited still photographs. Booking both means two people hiding at the spot, so plan their positions together with the coordinator.

Will the proposal video record what I say?

A proposal videographer films from a distance so the partner does not notice the camera, and at that distance wind and waves can drown out the words. If the sound of the question matters to you, a small microphone can be hidden in the clothing of the person proposing; agree it with the videographer before the day, because it has to be fitted without giving the surprise away.

How does a proposal videographer stay hidden at a resort or on a beach in Mexico?

A proposal videographer in Mexico usually blends in as a tourist with a camera, set up before the couple arrives at an agreed spot with a clear line of sight. The person proposing shares a live location or a signal by message, and the plan names one fixed mark to stop on, so the framing is right without anyone stepping into the shot.

What time of day is best for a proposal video on the coast of Mexico?

The last hour before sunset gives a proposal video in Mexico soft light, but the direction of the coast matters: on the Caribbean side, in Cancún or Tulum, the sun sets behind the land, while in Puerto Vallarta or Mazatlán it goes down over the Pacific. The videographer sets the spot and the timing from the actual sunset on your date.

What happens to a proposal video if it rains?

Light rain or overcast skies do not cancel a proposal video, and a grey sky can flatter the footage. If lightning, a hurricane or tropical storm warning, or a closed site or beach makes the planned location unusable, the terms move the proposal video to a new date at no charge, and the new time is agreed with the person proposing so the surprise survives.
