Frequently asked questions
How does Luminaria work?
Luminaria matches you with a vetted local photographer, videographer or drone pilot in 20 destinations across Mexico. You choose the destination, the kind of session and a date; a coordinator replies within two hours with an available professional and your exact price in writing; and the date is held once the retainer is paid.
How much does a photoshoot in Mexico cost?
Sessions in Mexico start at $130 for vacation photoshoot, and every service page shows its own starting price in US dollars, its length and what is delivered. The exact price for your date and location is confirmed in writing before you pay anything, and nothing is billed per extra photograph.
When will I receive my photos?
Every session type states its delivery window before you book, from 72 hours for villa & vacation rental photography to 8 weeks for wedding videography, counted from the day of the session. Edited photographs and films arrive in a private online gallery that stays available for twelve months.
What happens if it rains on the day of my photo session?
Overcast skies and light rain are working conditions, and often flattering ones, so a photo session usually goes ahead. If lightning, a hurricane or tropical storm warning, or a closed site or beach makes the location genuinely unusable, the session is moved to a new date at no charge, whichever side calls it.
Do I need a permit for a photo session in Mexico?
It depends on the place. In Mexico, an archaeological zone run by the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH), a protected natural area, a municipal beach or plaza, and a hotel or private venue can each set their own rules for professional photography. Each destination page names the authority for its locations; confirm the current rule with that authority before booking, and any permit cost is named before you pay.
Why book this way
A photographer who already knows the place

Luminaria is a booking service for local photographers, videographers and drone pilots in 20 destinations across Mexico, with sessions from $130. You choose the place and the kind of session, you see the starting price before you commit to anything, and the person who answers already works where you will be standing.
Mexico rewards local knowledge more than most places people travel to be photographed. The ruins at Tulum, the cenotes, the protected reefs and islands, the beaches in front of a resort and the airspace over all of them answer to different authorities and owners, and the rules for a camera on a tripod, a wedding ceremony or a drone are not the same at any two of them. Each destination page names the authority, links its rules and says when they were last checked.
The light is the other half. On the Caribbean coast the sun rises over the sea and the good hour is early; on the Pacific side it sets over the water and the session moves to the evening. Hurricane season, sargassum on the Riviera Maya and the dry months in the highlands change what can be booked, and the seasonality section of every destination says which months to aim for and which to avoid.
Sessions run from a half-hour headshot to a full wedding day with film and drone coverage, and take in proposals, couples, families, elopements, quinceañeras and commercial work for villas, hotels and restaurants. The exact fee is confirmed in writing before you pay and covers the editing and a private gallery delivered on a stated date, from 72 hours for villa & vacation rental photography to 8 weeks for wedding videography.
