Proposal photography · Holbox
In short
Proposal photography in Holbox starts at $200: 30 min on location with a photographer who works in Holbox, and 20 edited photos delivered to a private gallery within 5 days.
Why choose proposal photography in Holbox?
A Holbox proposal works because the island hides a photographer well. There are no cars, no beach clubs at the west tip and almost no one on the Punta Mosquito sandbar after the day boats leave, so a photographer can sit 40 m off with a long lens and look like any other visitor. The question is pacing: a proposal is 90 seconds, and on Holbox those 90 seconds should land on a low tide in the last half hour of light. The photographer checks the tide for your date, walks the spot the day before, and signals you when the light is right.
Worth knowing about Holbox
A candle-and-lantern proposal set-up is not allowed at Punta Mosquito in season. The Yum Balam management programme protects that 2.5 km beach as a turtle-nesting subzone and bans fires and flashlights on it during the nesting season, so a Punta Mosquito proposal is planned for daylight with no lit décor at all.
What does the session in Holbox look like?
- Punta Mosquito sandbar
- Wide, flat and shallow at low tide, so the photographer can stay far back without anything between the lens and the two of you.
- Punta Cocos
- The western tip, where the sun drops into the water; the backup when wind or tide closes the sandbar.
- Playa Norte at dawn
- Empty village beach in the first hour after sunrise, for couples who would rather propose before breakfast.
What does proposal photography in Holbox include?

- Online gallery delivered within 5 days

FAQ — Proposal photography in Holbox
Can we set up candles or lanterns for a Holbox proposal?
Not on Punta Mosquito during the turtle-nesting season. The Yum Balam management programme bans fires and flashlights on that beach while turtles nest, so a Holbox proposal there is planned for the last daylight with flowers or a sign rather than candles. Ask your hotel about lit set-ups on its own grounds.
Can a drone film our proposal on Holbox?
No. Drones are banned throughout the Área de Protección de Flora y Fauna Yum Balam, which covers all of Holbox, under Regla 123 of its 2018 management programme. A Holbox proposal is covered from the ground with a long lens, which also keeps the photographer out of sight.
When is the best time to propose on Holbox?
On Holbox the proposal moment is timed to a low tide in the last 30 minutes before sunset, when the Punta Mosquito sandbar is widest and the light is warm. The photographer checks the tide table for your date and gives you a signal, and the 30-minute session continues with portraits on the same sandbar afterwards.
