Maternity photography
Maternity photography is a 30-minute portrait session for an expectant parent, priced from $170, planned so that comfort comes before any backdrop. In Mexico that mostly means heat and humidity: on the Caribbean coast around Cancún, Tulum and Bacalar, and on the Pacific in Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán, much of the year is hot and humid by mid-morning. The session is scheduled for early morning or the last hour before sunset, at a location with shade, a place to sit, and a short walk from where the car stops.

Breaks are part of the plan rather than an interruption. Bring water, take a seat whenever you want one, and the photographer works around you; the 30 minutes are not a test of endurance. The 20 edited photos lean toward unhurried portraits, because a maternity session is about the person rather than a sequence of locations, and a single well-chosen spot such as a garden, a quiet beach or a shaded courtyard in Mérida produces more usable frames than a walk between several.
Fabric does a lot of the work. A long, light dress in chiffon or jersey moves in a sea breeze and does not cling in humidity; solid colours photograph better than small prints; one outfit is plenty for a 30-minute session. Flat sandals for the walk keep sand from being a hazard, and the photographer avoids wet rocks and steep paths. Partners and children can join for part of the session at no extra cost, sharing the 20 photos with the portraits of you alone.
This page makes no medical recommendations. If the session is part of a trip to Mexico, follow your doctor’s advice about travelling, and check your airline’s own policy on flying in late pregnancy before you book. Many people choose the third trimester, when the bump shows clearly and standing is still comfortable, but the right week is yours to decide. The maternity gallery is delivered within 7 days, and a full family session can be booked separately if you want one.
Questions about maternity photography
How is a maternity session planned around heat and humidity?
A maternity session in a coastal Mexican destination such as Cancún, Tulum or Puerto Vallarta is scheduled for early morning or the last hour before sunset, at a spot with shade, a seat and a short walk from the car. Bring water; the maternity photographer stops for breaks whenever you ask, without losing any session time.
When in pregnancy do people usually book maternity photos?
Maternity photos are commonly booked in the third trimester, when the bump shows clearly but walking and standing are still comfortable. If the maternity session is part of a trip to Mexico, follow your doctor’s advice about travel, and check your airline’s own policy for flying in late pregnancy before you book.
What should I wear for maternity photos on a beach?
For maternity photos on a beach in Mexico, a long, light dress in chiffon or jersey moves in the breeze and does not cling in humidity. Solid colours photograph better than small prints, one outfit suits the 30-minute session, and flat sandals for the walk keep the maternity session comfortable on soft sand.
Can my partner and children be in the maternity photos?
A partner and children can join the maternity photos at no extra cost; the session stays 30 minutes and 20 edited photos, shared between portraits of you alone and frames with your family. If you want a full family session as well, book family photography, which is paced for children and planned around naps and meals.
