Honeymoon photography
Honeymoon photography is a 30-minute session for newlyweds on their honeymoon, priced from $180, planned around the trip rather than around a wedding. It differs from a couple session in timing and setting rather than length: both start at 30 minutes and 20 edited photos, but the honeymoon session is fitted to a resort stay or an excursion day, on the resort beach in the morning or at a cenote or a town square later. A second stop can be added and is quoted in writing before booking. It is not a wedding-dress session; wearing a gown into the sea is what the trash-the-dress service is for.

Most honeymooners in Mexico stay at a resort, and resorts set their own rules for outside photographers. Some allow them freely, some ask for registration at the gate, some charge a fee, and some sell their own photo packages and prefer them. Ask the resort before you book, in writing, so the photographer is not turned away at the entrance. Public beaches, town centres and natural sites near the resort are usually simpler, and a short drive often buys a quieter backdrop than the pool.
Schedule the session on the second or third day. The first day is usually lost to travel fatigue, and by the last day there is often a sunburn and a suitcase to pack. Leaving a free day after the session matters in Mexico, where the Atlantic hurricane season on the Caribbean coast runs from June 1 to November 30 and the eastern Pacific season starts on May 15: if a storm makes the location unusable, the session moves to another day at no charge, and a spare day makes that possible.
Wear what you would wear to a good dinner on holiday. Linen, light cotton and solid colours handle humidity better than synthetic fabrics, and a veil, a jacket or the rings can appear for a few frames if you want a reminder of the wedding. Couples who married in Mexico sometimes book the honeymoon session in a second destination, such as Bacalar after a wedding in Tulum, so the two sets of pictures look different. The gallery is delivered within 7 days.
Questions about honeymoon photography
How is honeymoon photography different from a couple session?
Honeymoon photography is a 30-minute session with 20 edited photos for couples who have just married, usually planned around a resort stay or an excursion. A couple session has the same length but suits any two people on a trip. Wedding attire in the sea is a third service, trash the dress.
Can we wear our wedding clothes for honeymoon photos?
Honeymoon photos are usually taken in holiday clothes, but a veil, a jacket or the wedding rings can feature. If you want to wear the full wedding dress into the sea or a cenote, book a trash-the-dress session instead, which is built for wet fabric, changing time and the extra care a long gown needs on rocks.
When during the honeymoon should we schedule the photo session?
Schedule a honeymoon photo session on the second or third day of the trip, after the travel fatigue is gone and before a sunburn appears. Keeping a later day free lets the session move at no charge if a storm makes the location unusable, which matters in Mexico between June and November.
Will our all-inclusive resort allow an outside honeymoon photographer?
Whether an all-inclusive resort in Mexico allows an outside honeymoon photographer depends on the resort, and some sell their own photo packages. Ask the resort before you book whether outside photographers may work on the property, whether they must register at the gate, and whether a fee applies.
