Drone wedding coverage · Cancún

In short

Drone wedding coverage in Cancún starts at $600: 3 hours on location with a photographer who works in Cancún, and 40 edited photos + a 2–3 minute edited film delivered to a private gallery within 3 weeks.

Why choose drone wedding coverage in Cancún?

From the air, the shape of Cancún is the photograph: a thin strip of hotels between turquoise sea and the darker Laguna Nichupté. Getting that shot at a wedding is a question of rules before it is a question of skill. NOM-107-SCT3-2019, Mexico’s drone standard, bars foreign operators and requires insurance for commercial flights, so every flight is made by a local Mexican-registered pilot. Flights stay in daylight and in line of sight, and the drone never flies over guests who are not part of the operation. Each venue is also measured against the airport before anything is promised.

Worth knowing about Cancún

Cancún International Airport is at km 22 of Carretera 307, and the southern end of the hotel zone around Punta Nizuc is the part of Cancún nearest to it. NOM-107 keeps drones 9.2 km from any aerodrome and limits them to 100 m between the 9.2 km and 18.5 km rings, so the pilot measures your venue’s exact distance to the airport first, and a venue inside 9.2 km gets no drone without AFAC authorisation.

FAQ — Drone wedding coverage in Cancún

Can a wedding guest fly their own drone at a Cancún wedding?

Mexico’s drone standard, NOM-107-SCT3-2019, restricts operation by foreign operators and foreign-registered drones, and drones heavier than 250 g must be registered with the AFAC before they fly. A guest’s drone at a Cancún wedding is outside what we can plan around; paid aerial coverage is flown by a Mexico-registered, insured operator.

Can the drone film our Cancún reception after dark?

No. NOM-107-SCT3-2019 allows flights only between sunrise and sunset unless the AFAC authorises night operation, so drone coverage of a Cancún wedding is planned for the ceremony, the portraits and the first part of the evening while there is still daylight, and the reception is covered from the ground.

Will the drone fly over the guests at our Cancún wedding?

Not over guests. NOM-107-SCT3-2019 forbids flying over people who are not part of the operation, except for drones of 250 g or less, so at a Cancún wedding the drone frames the guests from the side or from above the water, and the couple and wedding party are briefed as participants.
